Skin Needling FAQ

How does Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) work?

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), better known as skin needling or meso therapy, improves the texture, consistency, colour and thickness of your skin by lightly piercing it with a medical-grade needling device, creating micro wounds into the skin. The body then responds by creating collagen, elastin, and new skin cells by using the mechanisms associated with its natural healing process.

Visible results from your first Collagen Induction Therapy can include:

  • Tightening, lifting and rejuvenation of the skin
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduction of acne scarring
  • Decrease in pore size and improves skin texture
  • Reduction of keloids scars, surgical scars
  • Reduction of stretch marks

The treatment also increases the absorption of active skin products into the skin, stimulating skin repair at a cellular level and accelerating the regeneration of the skin’s epidermal cells.

CIT is similar to laser skin resurfacing treatments, but without the side effects or the long recovery time.

How many treatments are recommended?

Results are evident after just one treatment, with the most significant results occurring after only four to six.

However, the following number of treatments are recommended for the below conditions:

  • Skin rejuvenation: 4 – 6 treatments.
  • Acne scars: minimum 6 treatments
  • Stretch marks: 4 – 8 treatments
How soon will I see results?

Visible results are obvious after just one treatment, with the most significant results occur are after four to six treatments.

Your skin will also continue to improve in appearance over the next 6 to 12 months.

Can the treatment be used on all skin types, areas and colours?

Yes, the treatment is safe and effective for all skin types, areas and colours.

The MDerma medical-grade needling device that our nurses use is so advanced that it is appropriate and safe to use in sensitive and previously inaccessible areas such as the upper and lower eyes, lips, and nose.

What does the treatment feel like?

There is minimal discomfort when the device is at minimum depth. With treatments requiring greater depth of penetration, it is necessary to apply topical anaesthetic between 15 to 40 minutes prior to the treatment, allowing for minimal discomfort.

How long is the recovery process?

Recovery time is minimal, with most people being able to return to their daily activities immediately after the treatment. Any flushing of the skin usually lasts between 12-48 hours after treatment.
