What to Expect Pre, During and Post Dermal Filler Treatment

For some, not knowing what to expect from Dermal Filler treatments can be a bit daunting. However, when provided with a better understanding of what is involved in the treatment process, clients realise that it isn’t as daunting as they first thought, and feel much more confident in having the treatment.

So, if you have ever wondered what is involved in a Dermal Filler treatment, this Guide will provide you with a better understanding of what to expect Pre, During and Post Dermal Fillers, and give you the confidence to start the process.

Pre-treatment process

Prior to your treatment and during the consultation with your treating Registered Nurse, together with the prescribing Doctor, we will have an in-depth look at your health history, assess your areas of concern that you wish to be treated, and determine if you are a suitable candidate for Dermal Fillers. To help you decide whether treatment with Dermal Fillers is right for you and to help you make an informed decision to undergo the treatment, your treating Registered Nurse will go through: What is involved in the Dermal Filler treatment, Alternatives to Dermal Filler treatments, Potential side effects, and Post treatment care.

Once it has been established that you are a suitable candidate for Dermal Fillers and you have made an informed decision to go ahead with the treatment, your treating Registered Nurse will perform a comprehensive assessment and of the areas of concern, in order to determine the best treatment options. Once the treatment options are discussed and outlined with you, a detailed and personalised treatment plan is created that targets your concerns, and also addresses your wants and needs so you can achieve outstanding visible and long-lasting results.

Pre and post treatment photos are also taken so as to visually monitor and compare the progression of your Dermal Filler treatments.

During Treatment

Dermal Filler (including Lip & Cheek filler) treatments involve a series of small injections into areas requiring correction or an increase in volume. The procedure is very quick and relatively pain free. Any discomfort resolves immediately after the treatment is completed.

The injections are generally well tolerated. Topical anaesthetic is applied prior to treatment when performing all filler treatments, including Lips and Cheeks, to numb the area being treated.

During your Dermal Filler treatment, you are comfortably seated in a slightly reclined position on the cosmetic bed. The areas to be injected are cleansed with a non-alcohol antiseptic cleanser. Before the treatment commences your treating Registered Nurse will map out the areas to be treated to insure treatment accuracy for the very best results.

Post-treatment process

Immediately after the treatment you might see some temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. This redness and swelling is normal and usually settles within 24 hours after your treatment. Your treating Registered Nurse will apply healing creams to aid and assist in reducing the redness and swelling, and you will also be placed under a calming and healing LED Infrared Light therapy to further assist in the post treatment healing process. If you have received a dental anaesthetic (only for Lip fillers), the numbness caused may result in a diminished sensation of pain and temperature in the treated area for approximately 1-2 hours.

After the treatment you are able to resume your ordinary daily activities, with some small exceptions listed below.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours

  • Do not expose the area/s treated to intense heat (e.g. solarium or sauna)

  • Avoid pressure to the area/s treated for 24-48 hours

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours

  • Do not use topical AHA, Retinols, Vitamin C or oil-based makeup for 24 hours

  • Avoid facials, waxing, Glycolic or AHA peels, IPL or laser based treatments two weeks after treatment, and

  • Do not massage area/s treated unless instructed
