How to plan a pre-wedding skin care routine

So, you're getting married! Or maybe someone you know is. Its a super exciting time! But there is so much to do before a wedding; and of course even more so if you’re the Bride and Groom. But even if you're just attending, you still have to shop for an outfit, find suitable shoes and get ready all the same.

Whether you’re the Bride to be, or simply a distinguished guest, there is one thing though that we all have in common when preparing for a wedding – it’s our skin. In this blog, we share our ultimate pre-wedding skin care tips for those seeking to create a pre-wedding skin care routine and what are the best pre-wedding skin treatments for that “wit-woo” wedding glow.

Where should you start? When should you begin? And what skin care routine should you use?

Well, in truth, skin care is not something one should do only in preparation for an event. Like marriage, your skin care is a lifelong commitment, and you can’t cheat. When you cheat at skin care, you lose, and everything breaks down.

The best time to start any skin care routine is straightaway and one should always begin with the basics - an at home skin care routine and home skin care products. Let’s call this your wedding glow skin care kit.

Your kit should contain the following:

When deciding what skin care routine you’ll use for your wedding, you should always have a clear set of goals for what you want to achieve. This is why it’s so important to get guidance from a skin professional, prior to commencing any wedding skin care preparation.

Quick tip: Always stick to the same skin care range, or use skin care ranges with the same philosophies and formulation that work well together.

Consulting a qualified skin therapist for the right products to use and not a shop assistant, local chemist, or skin care counter, will ensure that you are receiving the right advice for your skin and circumstances. Products that work for others may not suit your skin.

At The Skin Manifesto we offer a one and a half hour thorough skin analysis consultation and treatment, complete with a skin treatment for your skin type to get you started on your skin preparation before any event or wedding.

During the consultation we will talk about the right types of skin care to use at home, and the kinds of professional skin care treatments you should include in your wedding or event skin preparation plan.

Most of you will know well in advance what date the wedding is, which will allow you to prepare accordingly for how many treatments you’ll need to achieve your skin goals and how often you must schedule each treatment, leading up to the big day.

If you currently suffer from acne and wish to have the brightest, clearest, smoothest skin on the day, without the need for excess makeup caked on your face, it is wise to start your major event or wedding skin care treatment plan around six months prior. This will allow your skin time to heal, repair and renew.

To give you an idea of what types of treatments could be incorporated into your skin prep plan, we have listed some below that can help solve your acne issues.

Keep in mind that as each skin type is different, and each season of the year will have your skin reacting differently, this list should only be used as a guide and not a prescribed plan for a guaranteed skin wedding glow.

Commencing your wedding skin preparation in the warmer months you will need to stay away from laser skin treatments and peels as these can remove the top layers of the skin making your skin more sensitive and prone to sunburn. Which is something you absolutely do not want pre-wedding day!

Some of the best pre-wedding skin treatments suitable for this time of year include Skin Needling, Biosonic Microdermabrasion, and LED Light Therapy, so talk to your skin therapist about how these treatments may benefit you.

However, if the date of the wedding is scheduled for the warmer months and you are preparing your skin during the cooler seasons, laser pigmentation removal and medical grade skin peels are a perfect choice for skin rejuvenation.

Skin preparation before a wedding doesn't need to be complicated and if you are short on time before the wedding: Keep it Simple.

Don’t do any treatments one (1) week out before the wedding. Instead, continue a daily cleanse to remove all traces of makeup and pollution, drink plenty of water, get at least 8 hours of sleep at night leading up to the wedding, and always remember to apply your sunscreen, for ultimate skin protection.

Best wishes for the big day!!
